Luck~ what kinda thing are you? Its rather intangible, full of uncertainties and definitely not a satisfying answer to give when you've accomplished it. However, we can't go around without it. Is that true? All along, I bear this idea that hard work allows one to move up to the stage he or she wanted to be. Luck is merely an aiding factor. There shouldn't be any sole reliance on it as you can never predict when good luck will come and bad luck will follow. However, this 76 year old man begged to differ.I met his today on my way back home. We engaged in a long 20 minutes of talk. Haha.. Never know I can talk to one stranger ah pek for so long. But its really an interesting chat. We talked about many things. From the school i am studying, to his family, the luck issue in life and religion. Quite an awesome lot to chat on isn't it. Haha..This lao pei pei is so cute. He walked up to me, in fluent british english, asked me why am i so hardworking, reading the textbook. (Basically, its just there to prevent me from falling asleep on the train. You know how tiring it can be when your class is from 9-9?) Yupz.. So, we started talking about university studies and how much the students are learning in U, yet it can be so hard to succeed in life. He blames it on the lack of luck (For a moment, I recalled the bottle of fountain of wealth..) and started listing to me all the major companies in US that fails to manage their finances even though they have the best talents under their wings. So, is it really luck?I always believed more in "the more you're prepared, the more luck you'll have." Luck is so unpredictable that we, as promissing young adults should catch hold of the more tangible stuff like hard work. Keke.. However, I think for someone of his age, given his insights in certain issues and the valuable knowledge base he has, it sounds right to follow his reasonings. He had like 3 lucky daughters, whom were all at new york working. He thinks that its lucky for him to have 3 girls taking care of his well-being, its lucky for him to be healthy and able to travel around the globe, etc.So, when can I be like him? Do I get to travel half the world at the age of 76 too? That'd be really interesting as this idea had never popped into my mind before. Or maybe I shd first aspired to be like one of his 3 daughters, lucky, successful and abled to provide for the well-being of my parents and allow them to go travel around the world. I hope i hope, it'll come true.
